The Creating Space Project

This project has its roots in collaborative discussions initiated by the NHCA, the MLA’s office, United Way Calgary and Aspen Family Services. The initial discussions centred around the lack of the promised public high school and health centre (originally the North Hospital) and community space or social services in the Northern Hills. As the discussions developed, other needs in the area became apparent and the Creating Space Project was born.

The Creating Space for Strength Project

In 2012, the NHCA’s Advocacy Committee undertook a community engagement project in collaboration with Aspen Family Services and the CCCSA, facilitated by the then MLA, Teresa Woo-Paw. It was called the Creating Space for Strength Project. A group of consultants, Eaton International, were tasked with helping us to find out what residents already had available to them, but also what they felt they most needed and would like to see in the short and long term in our communities, via community surveys and consultations. The first report was completed and presented in 2013:
