Community Halloween Costume Swap

by Creating Coventry Team

Remember the days when costumes were passed on from one child to another, and one family to another, as children grew and you didn’t have to spend hundreds of dollars every Halloween on a brand new (to you) costume just to go out and have some trick-or-treating fun? Nowadays, this has a fancy name: it’s a “closed loop” or “circular” economy, and it’s back in vogue!

Thanks to all the costume donations from wonderful community members over the past year, 2019 was the FIRST ANNUAL COMMUNITY HALLOWEEN COSTUME SWAP in the Northern Hills communities! We were in the Courage Lab (aka preschool room, in the same hallway as the Community Association office) at Vivo, Sat. October 5th, between 11 AM – 1 PM.

If you have a costume you don’t want to wear again, or that the kids have grown out of, why not donate it to our swap and then come over to Vivo in October and find something new (to you) to wear this Halloween for FREE? Bring it back clean and in good condition after Halloween, and the cycle can start over again next year ❤

WE’LL ALSO NEED VOLUNTEERS!
Please send us a direct message on our FB page if you would like to help with:
1. Sorting costumes in advance (approx. 2 hours – an evening during the week prior to the event)
2. Set up on the day (1.5 hours)
3. Directing people to the event (in costume! – approx 2 hours)
4. Working in the costumes room and helping to find sizes for people (approx 2-2.5 hours)
5. Clean up at the end (approx 30 minutes)
Thank you in advance!

Halloween Costumes Swap 2019!

*UPDATE*

by Moraig McCabe

Thank you all for your spooky costume donations! We are passing all these great costumes to residents who will store them till next year costume swap. Stay tuned!

Do you have costumes that no longer fit your kids (or you!) taking up valuable storage space?
🚯 Don’t throw them away!
♻ Donate your gently used (cleaned) Halloween costumes this year, and then come and grab a free one that fits for next Halloween at our community Halloween costume swap in early October 2019!

Vivo for Healthier Generations and Northern Hills Community Association have each offered to have a collection box (thank you!), so you can easily donate your used costumes for this community swap initiative. Vivo’s will be located at Guest Services (down the ramp) and NHCA will have a box in their office. The boxes will be available from the end of October until November 30th, 2018, and then again September & October 2019.

❤ THANK YOU to all the awesome Northern Hills community people who have offered their help with donations of costumes, storage, lending out clothing racks and more to enable this to happen! I love this community!
