Community Clean-Up ♻🧹 + Food Truck Frenzy

We’re are excited to bring back the Annual Community Clean-Up in partnership with Vivo, Northstar Residents Association (NSRA), and the City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services and Community Standards!!

Drop off your junk and then join us on the West Side Parking Lot from 11am to 5pm for a Food Truck Frenzy!

Help you to get rid of unwanted household items and property waste. This event saves residents a trip to the landfill for items that do not fit in your waste and recycling carts. We are hoping to encourage proper recycling habits and bring awareness to the fact that there are other options besides the land fill.

City will provide a Regular Waste Packer Truck and Organic Material Packer Truck, learn more here: Community Cleanups – Items we accept (calgary.ca)

Items that WILL BE accepted for Metal Recycling:

  • All metal products will be accepted, such as:
    • Appliances (except Fridges/ freezer)
    • Patio furniture
    • BBQ’s without the tank
    • Lawn mowers without oil or gas
    • Bed frames
    • Tire rims
    • And other

Items that will NOT be accepted for Metal Recycling:

  • Fridges
  • Propane tanks
  • Any toxic or flammable items

Items that WILL BE accepted for Cerebral Palsy Alberta:

  • Clothing
  • Recyclable beverage containers
  • Small household items
  • And Other items which will give the residents a chance to clean out your closets and donate for a good cause.

Items that WILL BE accepted for eCycle Solutions:

  • DVD/VCR/projectors
  • Tablets
  • Video gaming devices
  • Telephones, including cellular phones
  • Display devices
  • Radios and stereos, including after-market vehicle stereos
  • Headphones
  • Accessories-mice/keyboards/speakers/cables/docking stations
  • Video game systems and controllers
  • Portable hard drives
  • Keyboards, mice, speakers
  • Charging cables and docking stations
  • Cameras, including security cameras
  • Video recorders
  • Drones with audio or visual recording equipment
  • Peripherals and cables used to support the function of information technology, telecommunications and audio visual equipment, including charging equipment
  • Parts of information technology, telecommunications and audio visual equipment sold separately, such as hard drives
  • Lithium ion batteries from cell phones or laptops
  • Lead acid batteries (UPS batteries)
  • Cell phones and office phones
  • Cable boxes
  • Networking equipment – servers, routers, hubs, switches, etc

Items that are NOT accepted at the event:

  • Tires
  • Household Chemicals (these can be taken to the Country Hills Fire Station)
  • Car Batteries
  • Home Appliances (If freon is removed 100% – these can be put it metal recycling)
  • Propane Tanks
  • Glass
  • Microwaves (Working ones can be donated to the Drop In Centre, or if capacitators are removed, can be put in metal recycling)
  • Liquids
  • Railroad ties

Hazardous Materials

• Throw and Go Landfill Sites: Spyhill & East Calgary

     o Spyhill Landfill 11808 – 69 Street NW

     o East Calgary Landfill 3801 – 68 Street SE

• Household Hazardous Waste such as paint, oil and chemicals should not be collected at community cleanups as this material needs to be separated and transported according to regulations.

• DO NOT leave hazardous waste collected from Community Cleanups at Fire Station Depots – they are not equipped to handle that volume of materials

We’re looking for volunteers! To make this event efficient and fun, we have 3 volunteering roles, and for that we need YOU! Please review the roles and their details. To sing-up to volunteer, click on this link.

  • Two volunteer shift options:
    • 8:30am-12:00pm
    • 12:00-3:00pm

1. Traffic Helpers (4 Volunteers Needed) 

  • Navigating car traffic throughout the venue 

2. Unloading Helpers (4 Volunteers Needed) 

  • Helping out residents and recycling services to unload and move the items for recycling

3. Clean-Up Kits Distributors (3 Volunteers Needed) 

  • Giving out The Litter Clean-Up Kits (TLC Kits) that come with gloves, garbage bags, and hand sanitizers to attendees and encourage them to most dirty sites and clean-up the accumulated garbage there

  • Pick up one of the “The Litter Cleanup Kits” (TLC Kits) from this bin
  • Get your household team with you (family & pets)
  • Choose a space in a community to tight up (i.e. pond, pathway, green space)
  • Collect litter and drop it off at the applicable place
  • Share with us what you did by tagging us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Spread the word about this activity!
